Olive Harvest

We are lucky to have the olive trees as well as the vineyard but unfortunately we sold our small inflated boat due to the crisis!!

 

It is true that olives are precious and the olive tree is a symbol of the Greek countryside.

Our olive trees are located in Aliveri,Evia island. Picking olives is a hard and time-consuming work but fortunately the modern machines make the process much easier.

Tarps are placed all over the base of the trees as to catch the falling olives. Using a rake, you drag gently as to dislodge the olives from the tree and fall onto the nets laid out on the ground. Later on, the sorting takes place and the olives are put in linen packs.

Then the olives are transferred to the nearby olive press to have the oil extracted!

Μαζεύουμε ελιές!!

«Εάν αποσυνθέσεις την Ελλάδα, στο τέλος θα δεις να σου απομένουν μια ελιά, ένα αμπέλι κι ένα καράβι. Που σημαίνει: με άλλα τόσα την ξαναφτιάχνεις». Ο. Ελύτης.

Τις ελιές τις έχουμε, το αμπέλι επίσης, το καράβι δυστυχώς μας το έφαγε η κρίση (ένα μικρό φουσκωτό!)

Η αλήθεια είναι πως ο καρπός της ελιάς είναι πολύτιμος και το δέντρο είναι σύμβολο της ελληνικής υπαίθρου.

 

Οι δικιές μας ελιές βρίσκονται στο Αλιβέρι της Εύβοιας. Η τόσο επίπονη και χρονοβόρα εργασία, έχει αποκτήσει συμμάχους τα σύγχρονα μηχανήματα, που κάνουν πολύ πιο εύκολη την όλη διαδικασία σε σχέση με παλαιότερα.

Ολόγυρα στη βάση των δέντρων απλώνονται τα ελαιόπανα ώστε πάνω σε αυτά να πέσουν οι ελιές αφού ραβδίσουμε προσεκτικά τα κλαδιά. Αργότερα γίνεται η διαλογή και η τοποθέτηση των καρπών σε λινά σακιά. 

Μετά σειρά έχει η μεταφορά στο ελαιοτριβείο και το ελαιόλαδο, το δικό μας ελαιόλαδο, είναι έτοιμο!!
