➤The uniform of the "Evzoni" is an evolution of the costume of the fighters of the Greek Revolution as a sign of respect for the heroes of the nation's struggles. "Evzone" means "well-belted", The Evzones are selected Greek soldiers also known as "tsoliades".
➤The uniform is handmade, its construction is time consuming and expensive.
➤"Fustanela", a skirt-like piece of clothing, made of 30 meters of white fabric and has 400 pleats, supposedly to represent the years of the Turkish yoke.
➤Extremely wide-sleeved White shirt, symbolizes the purity of the Greek nation struggles.
➤"Phermeli" (vest), the most difficult part of the costume carries folklore values.
➤"Farion", a scarlet cap, made of felt, symbolizes the blood. On the front, there is the national emblem of Greece. Its long black tassel is made of silk.
➤The high white woollen socks are worn by 2 on each leg. They are supported in the euzone΄s waist by a leather belt called “anaspastos”.
➤“Tsarouchi”, red leather shoe. It weights about 3 kg. In the sole of the shoe are nailed 60 nails (“prokadoures”) that are responsible for the imposing sound of the feet, during their pace. There are 2 versions of the usefulness of its famous pompon at its end . The first relates to the protection from cold, during bad weather. As far as concerns the second, was the fact that it was easy to be used as to hide sharp objects for battle.
➤The cartridge belt; "Evzonas" also carries the cartridge belts, which are made of leather.
➤The duties of the men of the Presidential Guard are the symbolic guarding of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, at Syntagma Square, as well as the Presidential Mansion. The main obligations of the well-to-do are the official raising and lowering of the Greek flag on the sacred rock of the Acropolis on Sundays and National Holidays and the presentation of ceremonial honors to the President of the Republic as well as to foteign heads of state.
Ευζωνική στολή
➤Η στολή των ευζώνων αποτελεί εξέλιξη της ενδυμασίας των αγωνιστών της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης, σε ένδειξη σεβασμού προς τους ήρωες των αγώνων του έθνους.
➤Οι Εύζωνες (ευ+ ζώνη→ ο καλά ζωσμένος), είναι επίλεκτοι έλληνες στρατιώτες γνωστοί και ως τσολιάδες.
➤Η στολή είναι χειροποίητη, η κατασκευή της χρονοβόρα και δαπανηρή.
➤Φουστανέλα, κατασκευάζεται από 30 μέτρα λευκού υφάσματος και έχει 400 πιέτες, όσα και τα χρόνια του τούρκικου ζυγού.
➤Το Λευκό πουκάμισο, με μεγάλο άνοιγμα στα μανίκια, συμβολίζει την αγνότητα των αγώνων.
➤Φέρμελη (γιλέκο), το δυσκολότερο σε κατασκευή κομμάτι με λαογραφική αξία.
➤Φάριον (καπέλο) είναι κόκκινο, κατασκευσμένο από τσόχα και συμβολίζει το αίμα. Στο μέτωπο υπάρχει το ελληνικό εθνόσημο. Η μακριά μαύρη φούντα είναι κατασκευασμένη από μετάξι.
➤Οι ψηλές μάλλινες λευκές κάλτσες φοριούνται από 2 στο κάθε πόδι. Στηρίζονται στη μέση του εύζωνα από μία δερμάτινη ζώνη που λέγεται ανάσπαστος.
➤Οι μαύρες καλτσοδέτες είναι από μετάξι.
➤Τσαρούχι κόκκινο δερμάτινο υπόδημα. Ζυγίζει περίπου 3 κιλά. Στη σόλα του υποδήματος είναι καρφωμένα 60 καρφιά (προκαδούρες) απ όπου και ο χαρακτηριστικός ήχος στο βηματισμό των ευζώνων. Σύμφωνα με τη λαϊκή παράδοση η μαύρη φούντα χρησιμοποιούνταν κατά μία εκδοχή για προστασία από το κρύο κατά άλλη για να μπορούν να κρύβουν αιχμηρά αντικείμενα για τη μάχη.
➤Στη στολή του ο Εύζωνας κουβαλά και τις φυσιγγιοθήκες οι οποίες είναι κατασκευασμένες από δέρμα.
➤Στα καθήκοντα των ανδρών της Προεδρικής Φρουράς είναι η συμβολική φύλαξη του Μνημείου του Άγνωστου Στρατιώτη, στο Συντάγμα καθώς και του Προεδρικού Μεγάρου. Βασικές υποχρεώσεις των ευζώνων είναι η επίσημη έπαρση και υποστολή της ελληνικής σημαίας στον Ιερό Βράχο της Ακρόπολης τις Κυριακές και εθνικές αργίες και η απόδοση εθιμοτυπικών τιμών στον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας καθώς και σε αρχηγούς ξένων κρατών.
