Let's talk about complete and incomplete protein!

➢Proteins look like long chains, the links of which are amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins.
➢There are 2 types of amino acids:
☑the essential amino acids→ i.e those that the body cannot synthesize on its own, so you have to get them daily by food  and ☑the non-essential amino acids→that can be made by the body.

➢Proteins are involved in many different processes such as: ✔tissue regeneration ✔muscle building ✔production of enzymes, antibodies to neurotransmitter hormones.

➢Proteins of animal origin🐂🐄🐔🐠 contained in ✏red meat ✏seafood and  fish ✏ eggs ✏poultry ✏dairy. They contain all the necessary amino acids (complete protein), in the proportions that the human body needs and are characterized as proteins of high biological value.

➢Plant source proteins 🌽🌾🍄 are found in  ✏legumes ✏nuts  ✏cereals ✏seeds and  ✏vegetables. They do not contain or contain in small proportion the necessary amino acids (incomplete protein) and are therefore characterized as  low biological value protein.

➢In their majority, plant proteins are incomplete. Nevertheless, there are some plant sources of complete protein such as soy.

➢By combining plant sources of protein (amino acids supplementation) → form a complete protein. This supplementation, does not have to be done at the same meal🍴🍛 but during the meals of the day. For example, you can eat beans at lunch and few nuts as afternoon snack❤.

➢We are talking about food combinations that are actually delicious!!
i.e. 🍚Lentils with rice 🍚Chickpeas with corn 🍚Bean soup with wholemeal bread
🍚Peanut butter with bread 🍚Pasta with pine nuts 🍚hummus and wholegrain pita bread

☺Meet your protein needs, consuming and enjoying a variety of foods!!!
